CoMMET develops multifunctional meta-materials
 
having desired acoustic, electro-active and/or mechanical properties. An example includes a material optimized for tactile maping of contact area between ultrasound probe and tissue. Intended commercial applications of such materials are tactile sensing arrays for ultrasound medical screening and, eventually, ultrasound imaging systems capable of biopsy-free brest and prostate cancer diagnosis. Other applications of our enabling technologies include non-linear acoustic materials for hearing protection and thin-film sensor arrays for normal and shear loads which targets robotic manipulators, telemedicine, protection gloves, sensors for airflow drag and lift.
